As small businesses continue to feel the economic crunch more and more

Companies are tapping in to their creative side in order to stay competitive and keep the doors open, especially in the marine industry where we are considered a luxury item.  Most owners are trying to keep the mortgage and light bills paid, versus refitting their yachts; so the industry has become a needs and wants game now. Yacht owners are only doing what needs to be done, not what they want to.  They are holding onto their money with the uncertainty of the US economies stability.

Back in 2008 and 2009 captains and owners would only go looking for 2 quotes on a job; now they are looking for 5 or more, which creates a price bidding war.  It just comes to show you what an economic state can do to even the wealthiest people. Especially since most small marine companies have to carry three types of insurance, workers comp, Longshoreman's, and ships repairs and liabilities with a minimum of $1 million dollars; So let's all keep up with the new world and keep the ball rolling.

Foster's Yacht Service in at Lauderdale Marine Center in Ft. Lauderdale offers a website tracking system for customers to follow their boat project progress online. Clients can log on to a dedicated site to view weekly tracking schedules, job status and photos.

"Costs are very important right now to owners, captains and crew, so it's vital that they have a relationship with a service provider that is accountable for everything they do while providing superior service, quality work and competitive pricing," Dennis Foster, founder and CEO of Foster's Yacht Services, said. "Our web-based tracking tool is unprecedented. It really puts our clients' minds at ease during a project."

Dennis Foster's Sun-Sentinel Article

After vacationing, time for rebuilding

August may be one of the busiest months of the year for yacht repairs at Foster's Yacht Services at Lauderdale's Marina in Fort Lauderdale, said owner Dennis Foster.

"People want to make sure their boats are perfect before the start of the boat show season," Foster said. Boat show season usually begins in the fall. The Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show starts at the end of October. "So summer, especially toward the end of it, is the busiest time for major boat maintenance."

Foster's company specializes in major yacht repairs, such as engine rebuilding, interior upgrades, hull extensions and even fly bridge installments. The company has been operating in Fort Lauderdale since 1986.

"It's cyclical," said Foster, who said his company completes around 10 major projects a year.
